EMERGENCY - 'ANATA' - ID #27694 4-YR-OLD PUREBRED, NEUTERED MALE CHOW, SAID TO BE GOOD w/ OTHER DOGS, POSSIBLY CATS & TRAINED. OWNER DIED & WAS LEFT IN THE HOME W/ NO FOOD OR WATER. NEED ADOPTER OR FOSTER & RESCUE TO SAVE HIS LIFE. WHO CAN HELP?

CODE RED/ to be pts very soon - Yreka, CA (Nor Cal, north of Redding, nr OR border)- Siskiyou County Animal Control, 'Anata' , ID #27694 - a 4-year-old purebred male chow already neutered and said to be good with other dogs, possibly cats, trained - Owner died and was left in the home with no food or water.

Emergency! Is there anyone in N Cal or near this shelter (north of Redding) who can foster (or foster to adopt) this boy named 'Anata'? He lived since a puppy with his autistic owner who sadly just passed away.

He is now in a rural shelter who plans to euthanize him if no rescue steps up asap, meaning we also need a foster (ideally in N Cal) as rescues need a place for a dog to go. We do not know how many days he went without food or water before being found. However, we learned he had a trainer who helped his owner since he was a puppy (mostly due to the owner's needs) and said Anata is a nice dog, and got along with other people and their pets in the neighborhood where he was oftentimes was found walking around off leash ( but always returned home as he was very loyal to his owner). His former trainer also used positive reinforcement with clicker training. However, due to the owner being very ill, Anata was likely neglected for past 5 months or more by the owner.

Sadly, Anata was hauled into this remote shelter, likely with a catch pole, and has never been let out in over a month since he was taken in. As a result, he has been declining in the shelter who has now added him to the euth list, but extended him for a few more days apparently. He is the longest resident at the shelter who only has 7 kennels and no more room. Unfortunately, we only learned of him the other day, but want to save Anata before it's too late. We were told he is quiet at the shelter and formerly was used to being groomed, in addition to being trained his whole life and had no behavior history before.

He's microchipped, neutered and also up to date on shots. He lived both inside and outside where he would go in a kennel at times as owner didn't have an enclosed yard, and hence why he sometimes wandered the neighborhood.

If you can help to foster or adopt and know the breed, or have experience with similar dogs, and are ideally in N cal, please contact robinmorgan@cox.net asap or Southern California Chow Chow Rescue Network who is trying to find rescue placement.

We also need pledges for his rescue, and possibly transport. But he does not have long to be saved. If you are a rescue and can help or have questions, please reach out to: Siskiyou County Animal Control, 530-841-4028.
