Meet Afton

Meet our sweet-natured boy, Afton!

Afton is a 2.5-year-old retriever shepherd hound blend. He is fully grown and weighs about 55 pounds. He is AMAZING—extremely smart and enjoyable to be around! While he can be a bit stubborn at times (it's a hound thing), this is manageable with some patience. Afton is well-mannered and eager to please. He is pleasantly food-motivated and has a gentle temperament and a beautiful old-soul demeanor. Simply put, he is a good dog—an easy dog, which makes owning him a joyful experience.

Afton would be a great addition to any family. He is friendly, happy-go-lucky, and incredibly sweet! His personality is superb—outgoing and cheerful. Afton enjoys group play, daily pack walks, and meeting new people and dogs. He loves cuddles and is a nurturing companion, always eager to be loved. He trusts everyone and knows no strangers.

Afton is fantastic with dogs of all ages and sizes, as well as with cats. He is active but not hyper, and he’s genuinely happy all the time. Afton would make an extraordinary family dog for an active, affectionate, and outgoing family. His hound-like personality is full of heart! He enjoys staying active and learning new things and is highly motivated by food and praise. Training Afton is fun, though patience is essential.

He’s a simple dog with a big heart, ready to share it with everyone he meets. Afton has a special knack for making people smile and laugh, turning a difficult day into a better one.

Afton does need another dog in the home, as being with companions is important for him. He is nearly perfect with other pets! You'll find that he gets along well with dogs of all sizes, cats, rabbits, and even turtles. His foster dad owns chickens, ducks, roosters, and goats, and Afton has made great strides in respecting them as well.

A fenced yard is preferred for Afton. Currently, he is using a 3-foot fence and is respectful of its boundaries.
