- Health
- Spayed / neutered, special needs. Abby was pulled from Harris County Animal Shelter at 6-7 weeks old. She was then taken to Gulf Coast Vet Specialist to see a dermatologist. The diagnoses is below on 12/11/17: Abby is a 2.5 month old Female Dachshund mix who is being fostered by Love and Rescue. She had been given vaccines at Harris County Public health including rabies prior to fostering. She had skin issues about one month ago 11/12/17 (at 1.5 months of age). Our examination shows severe significant skin disease with erosions and ulcerations in her grown region, hair loss and scabs on her head and face and oval ulcers on the inside of her ear flaps. Abby does have blood vessel inflammation most likely from being overstimulated with vaccines due to her small size. However, she has much more skin disease than is usually seen with this issue (vasculitis) I also think she has puppy strangles or juvenile cellulitis. Dachshunds are over-represented with this issue. While she is not "classic " for this, it is highly likely. Abby can not be vaccinated as it is life threatening to her condition. Therefore she can not go to the dog park, she can only interact with vaccinated dogs, and can not play with puppies. She can go on walks outside! .

Meet Abby
I was surrendered to the Harris County Animal Shelter with my parents. I was 7 weeks old and covered in blisters and scabs. The director of the shelter took pity on me and kept me in his office. Someone posted a picture of me on social media and after a day my foster came to get me. I was in so much pain, I was bleeding from all of my scabs, and I was growing new blisters. I tested negative for skin parasites so my foster ended up taking me to a derm specialist. There they said I had juvenile cellulitis and vaccine induces vasculitis. I was then put on 3 different types of medication that I am still taking till this day. I have a long road of recovery ahead of me before I am available for adoption but I am confident I can get better and find my forever home!
