Meet Kelly! This courageous 4-year-old black and rust Doberman has natural ears, a docked tail, and a heart full of love. You might remember her from our previous post about her incredible journey to survival.

In February 2024, Kelly was found scared and alone in a New York shelter, dangerously underweight at just 48 pounds. Her body bore signs of hardship, including scars on her nose from prolonged muzzling due to reported conflicts with another dog in her previous home.

Kelly had been vomiting for days before being surrendered and was facing euthanasia-her stomach and intestines were packed with batting and fibers from stuffed toys and cloth. After a successful operation and dedicated care, Kelly's recovery began.

Today, Kelly is thriving! She has gained a healthy amount of weight, now weighing 80 pounds, and has transformed into a lively, affectionate companion. She adores human interaction and enjoys playing with a ball, though she prefers people over toys. She walks well on a leash but is highly reactive to other dogs, often lunging and vocalizing in excitement. However, she loves running and playing in the fenced-in yard with staff and has had fun interactions with several male dogs.

Now, Kelly is ready for her forever home! She would do best in a rural setting with a fenced yard, where she can enjoy outdoor time and have the space she needs. Kelly thrives on human connection and would flourish in a home with patient adopters who can provide structure and engagement. Due to her reactivity and energy, she's best suited for a home without other animals or young children, though she has shown positive interactions with select male dogs.
