Sophie was brought into WPR as a kitten. She was adopted with her sister, but was taken back into WPR when her owner could no longer keep them so she is a Waverly Pet Rescue kitty again.

Sophie…Black and White. She is 11 years old as of April 2024.

Sophie was brought into WPR as a kitten. She was adopted with her sister, but was taken back into WPR when her owner could no longer keep them. She was very stressed out when she came back in to WPR. This is a very normal response to losing the only family you have ever known. Her self-esteem took a big hit from this whole ordeal. When she first came back she would get over-stimulated and would have separation anxiety. She is sensitive to other cats.

Sophie needs to be adopted into a stable home with a patient, gentle and loving owner(s). She is a sweet girl and loves to cuddle. She needs to warm up to new people slowly. She does tend to get overstimulated if you do not handle her properly. And then she will lash out. It can be scary if you are not an experienced cat person. As she feels more comfortable, she is very friendly and outgoing and initiates affection. She needs to be adopted into a home with no other animals or children. A quiet and calm home with a set routine would be best for Sophie. She needs to be adopted into a home with very experienced cat owners that can understand and continue to foster an environment where she is loved and accepted. The person that adopts her is going to need to understand how to properly handle her especially during times of change. She will need time and space to settle into a new home. She is such a sweet and lovable girl once she settles in and feels safe. And that does take time, love, and patience.

WE ARE A NO-KILL 501-C-3 NON-PROFIT RESCUE. All donations are tax deductible. We do not have a shelter. All pets live in foster homes. We only adopt to indoor homes. To see an animal, you must fill out an application first and then once approved, we can set up for you to meet the animal you are interested in. We do background checks on all applicants. If you have assault, domestic abuse, or drug charges please do not apply. If you have questions, please send an email to waverlypetrescue@mchsi.com

All animals see a vet for shots and normal exams. If they appear healthy and there are no obvious health concerns, then extensive testing is not done. This is normal procedure for pet rescues and shelters.
Waverly Pet Rescue puts a lot of money into medical care for each dog and cat we take in. $200 is the average cost for basic care. This does not include if the animal had an injury, required extra flea / ear mite treatments, or needed extra days at the vet office.
