Sophia Grace Domestic Short Hair Salt Point, NY

Sophie is such a sweet girl with a very loving disposition. She is one of 6 formerly feral cats that I care for in my back yard. Born in early 2019, her mother brought Sophie and her brother, Travis, into my yard in search of food. The first morning I saw them, they were underneath my bird feeder scratching at the snow for food, and that was it -- I have fed them ever since. After a few months, I was able to trap the two of them and got them neutered/spayed.
From the very beginning, Sophie proved to be a courageous and self-reliant little girl. A beautiful little bundle of white fluff with gray markings, she was the first one to allow me to come close to her and extend a loving touch. When I trapped Travis, she sat by his cage and wouldn't leave his side. Even though she was afraid, as I bent down near her and talked to her, she allowed me to pick her up and place her in the carrier.
An outdoor girl all of her life, Sophie was also one of the first to come into my house. She is familiar with the sights and sounds of a home, and loves and appreciates being able to curl up on a bed or window seat. She is a gentle girl, and once she trusts you, she adores to be loved and petted. She truly deserves to be a queen in her own little castle.
As an outdoor cat, it would be ideal if she was in a home that allowed both options, but if she needed to transition to life as an indoor kitty, I feel she would adapt with patience and time. She has spent 3 winters outside, and even with the shelters that I have for all of the cats, it is not easy life for them. Sophie is litter-box trained, and while she does prefer to use the outdoors, she does use the litter box.
Sophie has never been around children or dogs, but I would recommend that she be placed in a home with no other pets. As with any of the cats who have lived a feral life, a new home outside of their colony is a huge change, and they need time and patience to adapt to their new surroundings and get to know and love the new human in their life. She is such a special little girl...she just needs a chance.
