Simba Domestic Medium Hair Leavenworth, KS

Our sweet, reserved Simba. Simba was adopted from us a few years back but unfortunately, after a while began to have some health issues. Once these continued, his owner was no longer able to afford his needs and had to surrender him back. His owner was never able to get exact answers as to what was going on, so with our shelter vet, we began working on what is best for him. With the knowledge that he had a history of UTI's and his main problem was GI issues involving vomiting multiple times a week, we began him on a special food. Our vet suspects he has what is called IBD. When he began the special food, he was doing well but still vomiting here and there and not gaining weight. Then we began oral prednisone for cats. This has worked great and as long as he is kept on it consistently (once daily), we see very little vomiting, if at all.

Our vet would like Simba adopted with the knowledge that he may very well be on this special food and medication the rest of his life as it seems to be what is working well for him. Prescription food can be in the pricier range and while the medication is not very expensive, it is an extra cost. And of course, it will be important to keep a relationship with your family vet incase things are to change for Simba. We know it can be a lot to ask adopting a special needs kitty, but we are positive that Simba's sweet personality will be worth it. He is shy at first but always allows pets and affection. his past owner told us he was goofy and loved to play, that he got along well with other dogs and cats.
