Meet Shredder
Shredder and us go way back. Okay, way back as in like 2 months ago. We won’t lie to you, Shredder earned his name. He came to us back 2 months ago as a cat someone found wandering the neighborhood. We were completely full but his finders were desperate that we take him and I was exhausted of the day so I said “Okay, is he at least friendly?” The question was answered before I could finish my sentence. At the time, no, no he was not. Was not a fun or pretty sight. As we got to know him, he was able to be pet but unpredictable. His stray hold was up, we were completely full and he was not calming down. We had a barn home lined up for this boy! The day he was set to go, someone contacted frantically looking for their cat and sent pictures. He had been missing the exact number of days as Shredder had been on us and his finders radar and was from the same area. I thought, “No way”, showed the pictures to everyone else and we determined, this may be his owner. They came to see him and we have never seen a cat reunion we were more confident about. That was absolutely his person.
1 month later we received a message, “My cat is missing again, hoping you have him.” This was in the middle of the whole Squirrel fiasco, I was a mess. But I’d know if I had met Shredder once again. I told her we’d keep an eye out.
Flash forward another month later, someone messages us asking to bring in a stray, female cat that has been hanging on their porch about 2 weeks. We took “her” in, she was reasonably grumpy for a stressed cat, let me do her intake. After that, I didn’t want to stress her anymore to check the sex but her finders were confident. We dubbed her “Eclipse” but due to her likeliness of Shredders and her grumpiness, I jokingly called her “Lady Shredder” Well, surprise. After “her” stray hold was up and we took her to get spayed, and this was in fact, a neutered male. A double check at our records and pictures, we are 99.9% this is the same cat. We contacted Shredder’s owner directly a few times with unfortunately no response.
Since Shredder has been with us the 2nd time, he is 100x more friendly and affectionate than the first time. A little hesitant of strangers but has warmed up to everyone he’s met at the shelter so far. We can love and pet on him with no problem. We have the idea that Shredder is probably going to be a one person cat, preferably someone that knows cats are just grumps sometimes.
I’ve seen this handsome man at his worst and I still love him. He’s very sweet and from what I know from his past owner, he is loving, affectionate, cuddly and loves his person. I think she even had him leash trained.
