Meet SHORTCAKE (cc#7046)

Shortcake was found in a parking lot behind where a kindly lady worked. Afraid of what might happen with cars coming and going, she scooped Shortcake up and brought her to the shelter..... Of course she wasn't called Shortcake then. That's what we called her at the shelter because she has only a half tail. We're thinking (guessing) long ago she may have gotten it caught in a closing door.

Shortcake's been to the vet who estimates she's about 2 years old. She's a small cat, weighing only 6.6 lbs. Her FL/FIV tests and the fecal/giardia tests were all negative. Her Rabies and Distemper Vaccinations were updated and she was spayed. The vet has no idea what happened to her tail, but we found she does show some sensitivity so we think an adult household might be best.

At the shelter Shortcake seemed fine with other cat's around, but no so with the cats in the home she went to. That adoption lasted 2 days and Shortcake came back. So now we're thinking Shortcake needs a patient family that will give her time to decompress and settle in. Perhaps in a room to herself for a few days or a week before allowing her room to roam. Shortcake needs to do things on her terms and at her own pace. And, of course, no other pets. We like to think of it this way - How would we feel if we were beamed up into a UFO with strange beings around. We'd be frightened and afraid of what might happen next. We would need time to figure things out and find out "hey, this place isn't so bad....." At least that's the way we're thinking. Pets going into a new home have no idea where they are or what their new people are like. Only time will tell about our theory.

If you have any questions, would like more information about Shortcake or if you are considering adoption, you can give us a call. (WOAWL 973-736-8689). Or, speak with an animal control officer through the West Orange Health Department at 973-325-4120. Best yet, stop by and take a look. The Township's Animal Control Facility (commonly called The Animal Shelter) is located at 311 Watchung Avenue, West Orange; and is open Monday through Friday 4:30 - 5:30.... (Occasionally additional hours can be made by appointment.)
