Meet Scooter

Hi, my name is Scooter! Thank you for viewing me!

Not long ago I was picked up by a county animal control officer on the side of the road. I had no microchip or any other form of ID to help me find my way back to my family. Worst yet, I couldn't try to return to them on my own because I was injured. My hind limbs were paralyzed. I had sustained some trauma to my thoracic spine that was causing the disuse of my rear limbs and some other nerve related issues. For whatever reason though, that attending veterinarian did not recommend putting me down. So off to the shelter I went! The following day, I had no idea the doctor had come to see me with the intention of justifying a death decree. She spoke to me, and I meowed back. Although my rear legs could not support me, they still had feeling and I could move them and my tail! My bladder however was very full and I couldn't urinate on my own. My doctor was captivated by my beauty and cooperative nature. Instead of eternal sleep I was sedated to be neutered and have my bladder drained. The weekend was upon us, however, and my bladder was still being obstinate. My doctor knew my life and prognosis hinged upon getting past this issue. But it would not be possible at the shelter over the weekend. So my doctor loaded me up and to me to work with her at the Footbridge Foundation facility. She took me out of my crate to showcase my attributes and plead my case. What a miracle it was, a staff member decided to take me in as a foster. I went home the next day. And then, my healing journey began. I settled in pretty quickly. I could not pee or poop my first night. Then after only a couple of days, I was able to use the bathroom on my own! I even know to use the litter box. I still couldn't stand yet, but my patient foster worked with me, and performed range of motions exercises to help regain my memory and strength in my rear legs. I even got a scooter board to help me scoot around!

As time went by (about a month) I was making progress each day. I spend most of my days lounging around in my foster room, and playing with my best friend Basho (another foster). I love jumping across the room to try and catch him. I'm gonna be sad when he goes. I love the attention, not only from him, but anyone and everyone. I could sit in your lap for hours or beside you on the couch. My foster sometimes takes me to work with her, and I'm a pro when it comes to car rides. I love watching the world whiz by and sunbathing in my kennel during the rides.
I'm looking for a forever home where I can share my love and joy. If you're ready for a furry friend who will fill your days with purrs and car ride adventures, I'm your guy. Let's roll into a bright future together!

Update June 31st: Scooter can stand on his own and walk!!
