Meet Sasha

Sasha is a domestic short haired, spayed female, tortoiseshell with white with a reported date of birth of April 1, 2020. Sasha and her two kittens Tasha and TicTac were rescued from an outdoor situation in rural Becker County, MN. It was reported told that Sasha was around 4 years old at time of surrender in June 2024, but owner surrender information is not always reliable, and Sasha is believed to be around 2 to 3 years old as of June 2024.

Sasha arrived into the rescue with an infected neck wound from an animal bite, most likely from a tomcat, and Sasha was treated for the neck puncture wounds. Surprisingly, Sasha does not have the expected "tortie-tude" attitude towards other cats, and gets along well with other cats and tries to give them head bunts in greeting.

Bloodwork and a urinalysis at the time Sasha was spayed on Aug. 29, 2024, indicated possible early kidney disease or kidney injury as her blood urea nitrogen and creatinine values were elevated and her urine specific gravity was low. Sasha is currently on a lower protein, kidney friendly diet and had a vet re-check to see if her kidney blood values had improved with a diet change. Sasha is suspected of encountering some sort of toxin while living as a free roaming cat as it was reported that placing poisonous substances was a way of reducing the cat population in the area.

After 5 weeks on kidney friendly cat food, Sasha's blood urea nitrogen (BUN) decreased to 42 mg/dL from 89 mg/dL (reference range 10-30 mg/dL). Sasha's creatinine (CREA) decreased to 2.3 mg/dL from 2.9 mg/dL (reference range 0.3-2.1 mg/dL). Both blood kidney values on Oct. 2, 2024, were still slightly elevated but much improved. Veterinarian recommendations are to continue feeding kidney friendly cat food and repeat a blood chemistry panel in a few months.

Sasha is a pretty, petite lady who has her periods of play but is also purry and calm while receiving pets. She is now a safely indoor kitty who no longer will be mated by male tomcats and having any more litters of kittens. Sasha is a sweet, gorgeous girl who can go to a household as an only cat or be adopted to a household with other cats.

Spayed; up to date on vaccinations; negative for both feline leukemia virus and feline immunodeficiency virus; dewormed and treated for external parasites; and litter box trained.
