Meet Pixie! How this pretty tuxie arrived here has been a bit of a mystery; a family found her in their basement and contacted us to help get her out. Once her squatters’ rights were overturned, we discovered that she was microchipped! From that we learned she was originally from NYC and had been surrendered to the NYC municipal animal control twice before she was two years old, both times because the families had a baby.
Pixie is an interesting cat - she is very well socialized and confident. She’s one of our only cats who will come right to the front of her kennel and engage with strangers!
With her confidence comes a bit of aloofness: Pixie likes being around people, but does not love to be pet or picked up. She’s content hanging out near you on the couch, but she’s also totally happy doing her own thing all day.
We’ve learned that she occasionally enjoys a scratch on the back of her neck on her own terms, and most of all she loves to play.
Pixie was very upset when she first got here in May 2023, but we have gotten to watch that “tough girl” attitude fall away. She has had a lot of upheaval and needs a patient family who will let her learn to trust again.
Our favorite thing about Pixie is her bold attitude and sweet meow.
Pixie’s ideal home would be one with no excessive activity. She would likely be okay sharing her home with a calm, indifferent cat, but she would love to be the only pet in the home, and she would do best with an owner that is familiar with cat body language who can read when she doesn’t want to be pet.
Other Cats: may be okay with the right match, but would likely prefer without
Dogs: may be okay with one cat-savvy dog
Kids: respectful kids 13+ who will give her space
DOB: 2015
All Spicy Cats are spayed/neutered and UTD on vaccines prior to adoption.
