ABOUT KITTEN ADOPTIONS:
(1) Preference is given to adopters for kittens in pairs. Having a pal will help your kitten settle into their new home, and have company when you’re not around. This offers them a buddy to play with and can help keep the mischief to a minimum. This, in turn, makes them better companions, which results in you being happier humans. Please let us know if you would like to meet some of this kitten's siblings and friends.

(2) WE TYPICALLY RECEIVE MULTIPLE APPLICATIONS FOR THE SAME KITTENS. Of course, if you think they're adorable, others may, as well! Be sure to spend time with more than one kitten and list all of your favorites (in order of preference). Please be patient with our all-volunteer staff as we sort through the many requests. Thank you!

Welcome to a new beginning - both for you and your potential new cat or kitten! At the heart of it all is an opportunity to share your life with a furry companion who's just waiting to find their forever home. Here's what you need to know to ensure a smooth transition for your new cat or kitten from Feral Affairs Network (FAN).

Settling In: Embracing the Rule of Threes Transitioning to a new environment is quite a journey for a cat. To assist with this, we like to remember the Rule of Threes, a timeline to help you gauge your new cat's acclimation:

• 3 Days: Time to unwind and begin to understand their new surroundings. Feeling safe.
• 3 Weeks: Familiarization with their new home and daily routines. Knowing their home means they’re easier to get back home if lost.
• 3 Months: Full integration into the family, truly feeling at home, personality comes alive. They blossom!

Remember, patience is key! Behavioral changes are part of the process. For more insights on acclimation, head to our FAQ section at https://www.feralaffairs.org/faq/.

Our Promise for Every Cat and Kitten: Before coming home with you, each cat is:
• Spayed/neutered to promote their health and wellbeing.
• Vaccinated, including rabies & FVRCP, to protect against diseases.
• Microchipped for an added security blanket - to reunite you when picked up and scanned.
• Screened for FIV & FeLV, ensuring they start off healthy.
• Treated to remain parasite-free, because comfort matters.
• Given any additional veterinary care needed for ongoing health issues.
• Sent home with a full medical history to hand to your vet’s office.

Ready to Adopt? Here's Your Next Steps: Please email us at FeralAffairsNetwork@gmail.com and follow the adoption steps listed below.
1. Application: a. Fill in our form at www.feralaffairs.org/adopt/ and connect with us at FeralAffairsNetwork@gmail.com. b. Fill in our Kitty Care Quiz at https://www.surveymonkey.com/r/kittyquiz (easy if you READ each section before answering questions). c) Send a handful of photos of your home. Things don’t need to be perfect – just show it’s safe and comfortable. d) Have a talk with our Adoption Coordinator to validate your application and answer any questions about your application. Plus you may have questions about the adoption journey.
2. Meet-and-Greet: We will schedule a meet-up - it could be at their cozy foster home, Catnip Cat Cafe in Norfolk, or Greenbrier PetSmart in Chesapeake.
3. Contract and Completion: When a mutual connection is made, and we’ve agreed this is a good fit for you and for our cat or kitten, we'll finalize the adoption with a contract, pay the adoption fee, and get ready for the welcome home party for your new cat!

Feral Affairs Network (FAN) is a 501c3 nonprofit group focused on caring for community cats. 100% of adoption fees and donations go to saving cats and kittens from lives of despair.
