Meet Little Mama
Little Mama is FIV+ but don't let that stop you. FIV+ cats can live long healthy normal lifespans.

Demystifying FIV
FIV stands for Feline Immunodeficiency Virus. FIV in cats typically causes a weakening of the cat’s immune system. It belongs to the same class of virus as HIV (a lentivirus); however, only cats can get FIV. People and dogs cannot.
FIV Facts
1. The Feline Immunodeficiency Virus is a slow virus that affects a cat's immune system over a period of years.
2. FIV is a cat-only disease and cannot be spread to humans or other non-felines.
3. The majority of FIV+ cats live long, healthy, and happy lives with no symptoms at all.
4. FIV is not easily passed between cats. It CANNOT be spread casually - like in litter boxes, water and food bowls, or when snuggling and playing. It is rarely spread from a mother to her kittens.
5. The virus can be spread through blood transfusions or serious, penetrating bite wounds. Bite wounds of this kind are extremely rare, except in free-roaming, unneutered tomcats.
6. A neutered FIV+ cat, living indoor-only in a home, is extremely unlikely to infect other cats if properly introduced so that fights don’t occur.
7. Many vets are not educated about FIV since the virus was only discovered 15 years ago and may inappropriately recommend that an otherwise healthy FIV+ cat be euthanized.
Many FIV-positive cats and FIV-negative cats live together in the same home for years without spreading the virus to the non-infected cats. Please consider opening your heart and your home to an FIV+ cat!
