Meet Jovi

Jovi was rescued from a colony at the Superstore. He turns out to be a very sweet tame cat, who was fending for himself amongst a colony of tough feral cats. He was in hard shpae when we first rescued him in February, suffering from many cuts and scrapes, frostbite, fleas, worms and upper respiratory infections. He has been treated for all his illness and injuries, and was recuperating nicely in a foster home. Suddenly, disaster struck! Jovi was rushed to the vet because we thought he was dying. He was very pale and anemic, dehydrated, lethargic and anorexic. Initially the vet suspected a huge tumour, but Xrays revealed a hugely enlarged spleen, and his liver andheart were also enlarged - and bloodwork showed that he had a serious condidtion called heambart or bartonella (commonly known as "Cat Scratch Fever" but it is actually transmitted by fleas). Jovi has been a wonderful patient, he takes his medicine and is very grateful to still be alive! We have bloodwork done regularly to show how his body is responding to the antibiotics and steroid treatment. AT the vet today, April 13th, 2011, the bloodwork was really good and his hematocrit is back up to totally normal range. So he is slowly being weaned off the steroids, and will have his blood re-tested in a month to ensure he is still doig great.
He is ready for his fur-ever home! Email Sonya to apply

This cat has already been tested for Feline Leukemia and FIV, has been vaccinated and spayed/neutered. Please consider adopting this lovely kitty!
