Meet Joey…survived abuse and still a lap cat!

Joey is a three year old, 11 .5 pound male, domestic shorthair, tuxedo kitty. He has beautiful white whiskers to match his sophisticated tuxedo markings. Joey has a short tail because a portion of his tail had to be amputated due to an infection that caused it to be constantly bleeding.

In an effort to tell you about Joey, I am going to share the story Joey’s rescuer shared with me using some of her words.

A kind, caring woman who worked around apartment buildings saw Joey, who was definitely a loving cat, in need of help. She tried to find Joey’s family without success. As she investigated further, by talking to residents, she found out that a man in the complex threw large rocks at Joey and other cats, trying to kill them. Someone shared a video with her of a shadowy figure of a man picking up Joey by his throat to dispose of him. It is believed Joey was placed in a garbage bag and thrown in a dumpster blocks away. Joey was missing for weeks but somehow found his way back.

After all this continued abuse, Joey’s rescuer was worried for his safety and listened to his “sorrowful meows that sounded like mourning from the edge of the woods.” She continued to feed him, but one night, as she headed home, she looked in her rear view mirror to see him chasing her car. The next day she contacted HART to request help.

Joey continues to be a very sweet, loving cat. He sits on your lap or takes a nap snuggling next to you. He greets you, follows you around, talks to you and is happy to be in the same room with you. He has a very easy going, laid back personality. He can be picked up, carried around and moved into a carrier easily. Joey is just a great little cat. He enjoys some play and toys like balls and wand toys. Everything is new to Joey so when he hears a new sound, like a vacuum
cleaner, he is initially afraid but the next time he hears it he is fine. If he sees someone new he may hiss, as he is not sure how he will be treated. As soon as the person puts out their hand and speaks to him kindly, Joey is rubbing up against them to be pet. At the vet he is a bit fearful, I believe, from hearing dogs barking.

Joey needs a stable home where he can feel safe. He will do well as an only cat or in a house with another kind kitty. Joey has not been exposed to dogs. He deserves to have a family that will provide him with lots of love and attention. He loves wet and dry food but most of all love. He will do well with kind older children and will be a welcome addition to any family.
