Hank was found as a stray in Waverly, Iowa. No one claimed him so Waverly Pet Rescue took him in. He is up to date on vaccinations, tested FeLV / FIV negative, and already neutered. fecal checked and treated. He is also diabetic. Our vet can help teach you if you have never given a cat a shot before. It is actually fairly easy to do. Hank is living in a foster home.

Hank is about 18-1/2 years old as of January 2025.

Poor fellow is very skinny and would not have lasted much longer on the streets. He needs insulin twice a day. It is very easy to give him these shots. Hank is somewhat timid at first but a super sweet kitty once he gets to know you. Very passive and kind. He just wants love and food, and attention when you have time. Hank warms up quickly once he feels safe. He loves to be petted. He loves to stretch his front legs out and knead a blanket. He is super skinny right now but should gain weight once he is blood sugar levels are stable for awhile. His condition was quite serious when we got him.

12/29/17 UPDATE: Hank is the sweetest kitty ever! Super friendly, purrs often. He loves attention and to be petted. He went to the vet today and had his bloodwork rechecked. He is doing well, but needs to gain more weight. He is at 7 pounds right now. Hopeful this will help him gain weight! Hank is super easy to give the shots too. He is also a great eater and is happy to eat all the food I give to him. Please consider giving Hank a forever home!

7/30/18 UPDATE: Hank is awesome! He has gained weight and is doing great! He weighs over 11 pounds. We finally got him on track! He is a friendly and loving kitty!

2/24/20 UPDATE: Hank continues to do awesome. He is a great eater. He is super friendly to us and enjoys being petted. He also should do ok with other cats. He enjoys being comfy in a cat bed. He loves to be able to look out a window. He likes to explore and check out the house. Sometimes he will zoom by you going as fast as he can, ha.

2/28/25 UPDATE: Hank is well. Does good with other cats with proper introductions and time. Hank still likes to be petted. He enjoys his cat tree and then his cat bed. Hank will need 3 units of insulin twice daily (every 12 hours). The insulin is $173 with shipping for a bottle, and according to his current dosage that bottle should last him for about 2 months. The needles are $40.00. Those should last approx. 100 days. We will send along all his supplies to get his new home started. He can eat regular cat food as long as it is good quality. Hank has done super well as diabetic for 8 years. His foster mom has been very committed to make sure he gets his shots every 12 hours each day and that will need to continue in a forever home.

Will someone please adopt Hank and give him a forever home? $50 adoption fee.

WE ARE A NO-KILL 501-C-3 NON-PROFIT RESCUE. All donations are tax deductible. We do not have a shelter. All pets live in foster homes. We only adopt to indoor homes. To see an animal, you must fill out an application first and then once approved, we can set up for you to meet the animal you are interested in. We do background checks on all applicants. If you have assault, domestic abuse, or drug charges please do not apply. If you have questions, please send an email to waverlypetrescue@mchsi.com

All animals see a vet for shots and normal exams. If they appear healthy and there are no obvious health concerns, then extensive testing is not done. This is normal procedure for pet rescues and shelters.
Waverly Pet Rescue puts a lot of money into medical care for each dog and cat we take in. $200 is the average cost for basic care. This does not include if the animal had an injury, required extra flea / ear mite treatments, or needed extra days at the vet office.
