Elvira is no Mistress of the Dark...but a super sweet, exotic 2 yr old kitty whose world has been turned upside down. During what was to have been a routine spay surgery on 8/17, she had a severe reaction to the anesthesia which caused her heart to stop. Fortunately, the vet was able to revive her but it caused her to become suddenly blind. ? There is a chance that some sight will be regained but it will take weeks before we know if she is among the few lucky ones. In the meantime, she is slowly adjusting, moving around with more confidence, eating, using the litter box and greeting her foster mom when she enters the room. The thought of caring for a blind cat may initially seem overwhelming, but with a few environmental modifications, a little patience, and TLC, a blind cat can confidently navigate their environment relying on their others senses. They are ideally suited for smaller living spaces.
Before all this happened Elvira was rescued from a city shelter where she was given up, along with another young cat, assumed to be her son, who already found a home, due to the owner not having enough time to care for them...geez. . Her foster mom writes:I've been able to hold her, she rolls around and lets me pet her, she purrs, and I'd say at some level she is funny. She'll grab me gently with her paws and no claws, and when she's still, she is so so sweet. Meet her in Alexandria, VA. Updated 8/23/24
Did you know that black cats are often overlooked for adoption, despite being just as loving and wonderful as cats of other colors? Elvira is here to break that stereotype and prove what an incredible companion she can be. Don't let her color be the reason she's passed over; give Elvira a chance, and you'll discover the treasure that she truly is.
