Meet Duncan
Date of Birth: February 1, 2024
Meet Duncan a.k.a. Dunkaroo
Duncan came to Arthur Animal Rescue from a backyard breeder/hoarding situation with a terrible URI. With the wonderful care of our vet team at Riverside Animal Hospital he was treated and recovered. Unfortunately, he also had Manx Syndrome (also known as Spina Bifida) which left him without a tail as well as the inability to control his bladder and bowels.
With the correct food and supplements, and the proper daily care he is growing into a happy, adventurous and playful kitten. He loves running around and playing with the other foster kittens as well as the older cats at his foster mom's. He has no fear of their large bouncy dog.
Duncan’s adopter will need to be willing to learn and commit to expressing his bowels twice a day and his bladder 3-4 times daily. He wears diapers sporadically throughout the day as he can’t be left in it for hours on end. Duncan requires his adopter to wash his back end and ensure he’s kept dry and clean. He is currently housed in a spare bedroom with hardwood floors that are easy to clean daily. Throughout the day he spends his time running around the house playing and cuddling, while having his diaper on and during the nights he’s in his room with his diaper off.
To keep Duncan regular and his stool soft and formed he will need to be fed vet prescribed food; Royal Canin GI Kitten Wet and Dry Food and then transitioned to the adult version of the food. He also receives a daily probiotic that keeps his gut (and bum) happy.
Duncan is an absolutely lovely boy who is so full of life and love to give. He is like any other kitten and loves to play and wrestle with the other cats, then snuggle up for a nap. He has met a young toddler and showed no fear and was eager to interact gently.
Duncan is said to be a purebred Highland Lynx cat, though coming from an unethical breeder there are no guarantees. Duncan has many of the breed’s characteristics with curled ears, no tail, and polydactyl paws. He has striking markings and is very petite and isn’t expected to grow to the average size of a house cat. It is important for Duncan to receive the proper care and maintain a lean and healthy weight as to know put extra strain on his tiny body.
If you are interested in Duncan, please consult your vet on information regarding cats with Manx Syndrome and the health conditions associated with the Highland Lynx breed.
