Meet Dora
Dora loves being petted and wants to stay forever after being placed gently into a warm lap but she has a fear of hands that she developed during her time outside as a feral. She greets her people with soft, happy meows and will often lay down with her back facing you and her head turned away so she does not have to see your hand coming when she is ready to be adored. You will then be treated to the softest fur coat you have ever felt! She is a brave, energetic girl who likes to play tumble and chase games with her feline friends so another young, energetic cat would be a good friend for her but a less energetic cat may not enjoy her company. She has had a couple of close buddies around her age in her foster home with whom she gets along well. She may also do well as an only cat.
Dora is sometimes too nervous for petting if she is approached in an aggressive way that seems threatening to her. Hands coming from above are very scary for her. Her new family will have to learn what her needs for occasional space are.
Dora also put on quite a bit of weight in her last home so close attention to portion control is a must and exercise will help get her back into better shape. She does much better with visits to the vet if given medication for anxiety before her trips.
Dora’s comfort with being handled by her human companions is continuously, gradually improving over time, but she may always be a bit quirky having grown up on the streets of Mount Prospect! She is loved so very much by her foster parents who would keep her if they could. If you are willing to consider making Dora a loved and cherished member of your family please contact Feral Feline Project to set up an appointment to meet her!
