Meet Baby (Special Diet)

Listen up, my furiends! We are on a mission to help our long-term Scruffy Paws residents find their furever families, and we are starting with an "OG" - Baby!

Baby - the longest resident of Scruffy Paws. 1,972 days!!! Baby is approximately 8 years old and a whopping 17lbs! He's basically a turkey. Baby originally came to us when we were trying to assist with a small hoarding situation. These cats were well taken care of but not very social with people, and, of course, they were not spayed/neutered. Initially, the plan was to spay and neuter these cats and give them back to the owner. But when we attempted to give them back to the owner, she no longer wanted them. And there you have it - seven undersocialized adult cats with nowhere to go. At that time, being a small rescue with very little space, this was a significant burden on us.

Luckily, over the years, the others all found homes. Baby has definitely come a long way since his arrival. His foster mom can pet and pick him up on occasion. He does well with other cats. He did have a urinary blockage a few times and received PU surgery because of this. He needs to be on urinary food for the rest of his life. He would do best in an adult-only home or with respectful older children. He is not a lap cat, and it is very much on his terms. However, in the right home setting, Baby has more potential!

We totally can handle him for his vet visit. He will need patience and understanding when he goes to a new home. Cat or cats in the home are a must. On occasion, Baby can be a bully with submissive cats. He does exceptionally well with cats who can hold their own. No doggies for Baby! He needs stability and someone who is settled where they are for a very long time.

Baby's adoption fee has been sponsored but please note the adoption process still applies. And Scruffy Paws will provide 12 months worth of his prescription food to his new owner. Baby needs a home and family of his own. 5 years is just too long to be without a forever family.

Thank you for being so interested in adopting from Scruffy Paws Animal Rescue! If you see this post, we still accept applications for this cat(s)/kitten(s). Please refrain from emailing us regarding availability.

All adoption fees include spay/neuter surgery, microchip, rabies, and distemper vaccinations, proof of FIV/feline leukemia testing, flea treatment, deworming, and an exam by a licensed veterinarian.

Our shelter hours are by appointment only and are not open to the public. Many of our cats and kittens are located in foster homes. An adoption application MUST be submitted and approved before meeting our cats/kittens. We do this for the safety of our fosters and potential adopters.

Our adoption process includes the following:

1. Adoption Application

4. Home Visit
Please make sure you are located in our vicinity. We are based out of Warwick, RI. Due to COVID-19, we are currently doing virtual home visits until further notice.

**Please note: Our volunteers try their hardest to contact every applicant in a timely manner but are often overwhelmed with a high volume of applications. Please allow up to two weeks for a response. We ask you to please be considerate and refrain from sending multiple follow-up emails or submitting duplicate applications.
