Meet Aqua

Mama Aqua (or Aqua for short) came from an unfortunate hoarding situation. When the home was repossessed, she and many other cats escaped in the commotion and they spent two months hiding under a porch, being fed by kind neighbours until AVA was finally able to take her in.

Aqua arrived at her foster home very pregnant and very terrified. She wanted nothing to do with humans, and really, can you blame her?! After a week, she gave birth to four gorgeous kittens, and was the most amazing, loving, and nurturing mama ever. As Aqua became more settled into a routine, she also started to see that humans weren’t so bad after all.

Now that her babies have all been adopted, and for the first time in her life, Aqua is experiencing what it means to be a pet who has the undivided attention of the people caring for her. She is surprised by how loving one-on-one interactions with humans can be, and how much she is enjoying being the centre of the attention! Chin, head and cheek scratches are now must-haves during cuddle sessions, and the purring and biscuit making start as soon as the pettings begin. Tummy rubs are not in the cards right now, even if she does roll around showing off her soft belly, nor is she a lap kitty. Baby steps. Aqua is working up to it.

Once Aqua is feeling comfortable and settled, her natural curiosity emerges and she will follow you around the house, watching what you are doing and making sure you are not too far away. She LOVES playtime with her humans, and wands are her favourite toy. She is always ready for the flying action and can go on for hours! At night, she comes for a snuggle and pets, before settling somewhere close by for the night.

Aqua had a hard time adjusting to being alone after her kittens went away, as she was used to lots of feline company. With proper introduction and patience, she would love to have a furry playmate (or two!) to run around and play with while her humans are busy. She also needs a family that understands her past, and how its lasting effect left her a bit shy, jumpy and scared of big noises and sudden movements. At such moments, she may hiss as an automatic, defensive reaction, or hide until she is sure nothing will harm her; but there’s no aggression involved and she soon comes out of hiding to the lure of company, playtime, or treats!

Aqua is at heart a gentle, calm cat with a quiet, lovely personality that is also curious and sweet. She is improving and getting braver and more confident every day! All she needs is a calm home (best without young children) and a family to finally call her own that will accept, love and continue to help her blossom. Aqua is working hard to be brave and so deserving of her own home and a happy ending. Won’t you be her champion and offer her the world?
