Meet Appa
Appa is playful, sweet, loving, and affectionate. His favorite things in the world are people who can snuggle and pet him, his siblings, feather toys, food, treats…..maybe he just likes everything. A funny story about Appa: Like many kittens, Appa found his first experience with a vacuum to be quite scary. While his siblings sensibly moved to a room away from the vacuum, and huddled together until it was done, Appa wanted comfort, not from his nervous siblings, but from his fosters. He tried to huddle up next to the legs of his foster, who ended up narrowly avoiding tripping over him as they tried to vacuum. A compromise was that he could be held and carried around as his foster vacuumed. This sums up Appa. Sweet, loving, gentle, but (and don’t tell him this) perhaps not the brightest. Appa’s approximate birthdate is April 22, 2024.
During our routine viral screening, Appa tested positive for FIV (feline immunodeficiency virus). What does this mean? FIV is a virus that can affect the immune system of affected cats. It is contagious to other cats, but not to dogs, humans, or other animals. Many cats with FIV live normal lifespans, without experiencing effects of the virus, but some can develop a weakened immune system when they are older and develop infections. Appa is a very healthy kitten with no signs of illness, and we expect him to live a long and healthy life despite this diagnosis! As a precaution, we recommend that Appa be adopted into a home without other cats, or into a home with FIV+ only cats.
