Meet Waffles

Oh look, a lovely Humboldt Penguin! Wait a moment, those are some very big and fluffy feathers on this penguin’s feet… why I do believe this is not a penguin after all, this is a very fancy pigeon! Waffles is a Saxon Spot Pigeon, a breed of pigeon known for their elaborately feathered feet, all white bodies, and cute little brown or black capped heads. Waffles is remarkably penguin-like, even down to his adorable little penguin waddle! Waffles was found in Chicago, not as an escapee from the Shedd Aquarium penguin habitat, but rather as an innocent and helpless abandoned domestic Bird. Fortunately Waffles was saved, quickly restored to full health with some TLC from GLPR rehabber volunteer Cathy, and is very glad to be safe inside a nice cozy house - no ice floes for this mini-penguin! Waffles is now ready to waddle his way right into your heart and home!
