Toby Parrot Eclectus Orlando, FL

Hello everyone! My name is Toby and I am a very handsome, gentle, 10 year old male Eclectus. My mommy loved me very much, but when her health began to decline, she asked Florida Parrot Rescue to find a new home for me. I’ve been living with my foster family for a few weeks now and enjoying their company, but I can’t wait to find a place to call my own. As you can see in my photos, when my mommy got sick I became very anxious and plucked out most of my chest feathers but they are growing back now and when I went for a checkup at the vet recently she said I should have all of them back within 6 months or so. I am otherwise a healthy, beautiful boy.

My foster mom calls me a “perfect gentleman” and says I am a really good bird. I’m quiet and sweet, and love to be talked to. I am always begging for my foster brother's attention, and I'm all-eyes-for-him whenever he's home. I don’t like to be pet or do well with sudden movements, but I love to sit quietly with you in the morning for snacks and watch T.V. with you at night. I am so polite, I even wait until I’m back on my cage to go to the bathroom! Ideally I would be adopted into a home where I can be outside of my cage a majority of the time, and where someone is home a large portion of the day. I grew up with dogs and I’m okay with my foster mom’s toddler (I will even take a treat from her hand!), but it is unknown how I am around cats. Originally Florida Parrot Rescue thought I had a preference for women, but after seeing how I am with my foster brother I think I would prefer a home where a man will be my primary caretaker.

Another thing you should know about me is that I am a wonderful talker! I am always surprising my foster mom with new phrases and making her laugh. I have even learned most of the names of the other birds in my foster mom's house even though I just got here! If you show me a treat and ask me what it is, I’ll tell you it's a “good yummy!”. I can say lots of things like “what are you doing over there?”, “what is it?”, “do you like it?”, “step up!”, “Toby booooy”, and lots and lots more. I learn quick and can also mimic the sound of a little dog barking, lots of different beeps and clicks, and have recently picked up the sound of my foster mom’s microwave. You never know what’s going to come out of my mouth haha. I do sometimes make a squawk that sounds kind of like a goose honking when I want attention, but it isn't too bad.

When I first came to my foster mommy’s house my diet was not the best, but she has introduced me to yummy pellets and chop, and now my diet is really good and my beautiful feathers are growing back in. I like to be gently misted with water every now and then as a bath. Because I am an Eclectus and we have special diet needs, my future family should be prepared to spoil me with a rather expensive brand of food, and give me lots of fresh chop or fruits and vegetables daily. My foster mom can go over all of this with you when we meet..

An avian veterinarian has properly vetted all birds before they are placed up for adoption. Adoption fees include the bird’s cage IF the bird has a cage - most do, but please ask!
