Hello. My name is Maggie, and I am an approximately 32 or 33-year-old female Yellow Naped Amazon Parrot - the consummate lady, I don’t like being asked about my age. Originally a “Pet Shop bird” I eventually went home when the shop owner retired and lived with her until she died. My human sister then became my caretaker, but I just never really settled in. I was surrendered to FPR to find me my forever home.

I am very social, and I am a great talker - “Hello” “Goodbye” “Okay” “Alright” are some of my favorites and I won’t hesitate to politely clear my throat “Ahem Ahem” to get your attention. I am surprisingly quiet and docile for a larger parrot, but I am skittish around strangers and do not like to be held or handled. Maybe due to a lack of out-of-cage time, I am not hand trained and I don't step up readily. I will step onto a perch reluctantly but will let you know I prefer to stay in or on my cage. My foster parents are working with me on this.

A voracious eater with a penchant for “junk food”, when I came into rescue, I was on a diet of peanuts, hotdogs, and grapes and was very overweight. With time, I have been transitioned to a healthy diet of Zupreem Fruitblend Pellets and perhaps more impressively CHOP! Small treats of slivered almonds are appreciated along with a little apple or banana. I am looking beautiful, trimming down and my plumage is looking healthier too!

I am unbothered by dogs and seem to get a kick out of throwing the occasional pellet out so my foster brother can come and eat it from under the cage!

For fun, I like splashing water around and seeing how far I can get it from my bowl! “Peekaboo” at bedtime is a lot of fun and of course wooden toys for chewing are a real favorite.

I would love to meet you and have a chat. In time, I like foot rubs and little head scratches thru the cage. But I will require your patience with that.

An avian veterinarian has properly vetted all birds before they are placed up for adoption. Adoption fees include the bird’s cage IF the bird has a cage - most do, but please ask!
