Louise Parrot Macaw Wesley Chapel, FL

Hi my name is Louise and I am a 17 year old Military Macaw. I used to be known as Louie but my foster family discovered I am a female as I have laid eggs! My owner passed away suddenly but I trust the nice people here at Florida Parrot Rescue to find me a great new home. Macaws like me can easily live to 40, 50, or even 60 years old so I have many more years ahead of me.

I am absolutely a man's bird, as I show a strong preference for men, and though I may come around and be friendly with a woman eventually, I should be adopted to a home where a man will be my primary caretaker. I do not like fingers poked in my cage and will bite them, so therefore I will not be adopted into a home with small children. I am not bothered by dogs and grew up in a home with a chihuahua. It is unknown how I am around cats. I am ok to live with other birds around me as long as they are in their own cages as I don't share my cage with anyone else - it is just mine.

My foster dad says I am a pretty good eater and eat chop and healthy pellets. I also love to eat fresh fruits and veggies, but so far, I've only liked the fruits. Guess I have a bit of a sweet tooth! I get whole nuts as a special treat and love to eat all sorts of nuts!

I love my time out during the day, and I am gentle when I am asked to step up to come out of my cage and when it is time for me to go back in. I have been naughty a few times and come out of my cage and when my foster dad needed to put me back in - I don’t mind being picked up gently and placed back in my cage.

I love to dance and sway along with the music. I am vigilant about keeping a watch if anyone comes to the door and always alert everyone at home that we have a visitor. I have good habits -I go to sleep on time every day, I cooperate to get my nails and beak filed. I love to play with my toys and keep myself busy - I am also curious about everything.

An avian veterinarian has properly vetted all birds before they are placed up for adoption. Adoption fees include the bird’s cage IF the bird has a cage - most do, but please ask!
