Louie Parrot Cockatoo Omaha, NE

Louie is a 34-year old Umbrella Cockatoo, who was very well loved by his previous owner. As many large parrots do, Louie loves attention, and is his best self when he gets plenty of socialization time with his humans. He is somewhat amenable to wearing a harness, and he loves spending time outside in his foster's backyard aviary with her. His previous owner often took Louie with her to run errands or on other outings around town!
Male umbrella cockatoos often have a poor reputation when it comes to behavior, but Louie is a pretty straight-forward guy. There are things that he likes (being playful, hanging out with his people, attention and affection), and things that he does not care for (other parrots, small children, being left alone), and he is pretty consistent.
Like many larger parrot species, Louie loves wood toys, so if you have a use for a tiny toothpick maker, Louie is your guy! Untreated pine wood, cut down to blocks and strung on a stainless steel chain is his favorite toy, and helps prevent him from chewing wood furniture and finishings elsewhere in the home.
Louie would do best in a home where all children are over the age of 13, and perhaps where he is an only-bird -- or with an owner who is experienced with integrating large parrots into a flock. He can be loud, particularly if he is left alone for too long; he may also "flock call" at sunrise and sunset, so Louie is not a candidate for apartment (or any shared-wall) living.
