Meet Captain Bonnie
Captain, or Captain Bonnie as my husband has taken to calling her, is an african gray parrot that definitely commands attention of her crew. She’s sassy and extremely intelligent. She makes a variety of sounds (from walkie-talkie noises, to police sirens, to the fire alarm), and has picked up several phrases here such as “Hello” “Captain” “Good girl” and “10-4”. She loves puzzles and the books you can buy for children that have buttons for sound effects. She’s a floor shark, and lives to attack toes if she can. She prefers men, especially if they have beards. She has and currently still does pluck her feathers, so I expect she’ll always be a bald beauty in the front. This behavior may or may not go into remission, as she has had this tendency for many years before she came to us. She loves any opportunity for training and targeting. Captain came from a zoo who loved her dearly and poured a lot of time, energy, love and resources into her care, and Captain has become a very close companion to us as well. For these reasons we will be VERY picky and will not release Captain for adoption unless we feel it is EXACTLY the best fit, and Captain will be the one to have the final say.
$250 of Captain's adoption fee will go towards enrolling her new owner into Level 1 and The Parrot Project with the Animal Behavior Center -this is an excellent resource for you to lean on to work with any new parrot, tackle any behavioral issues that may arise after bringing a new bird home, and to provide education and community to parrot owners.
