National Feral Cat Day

October 16 is National Feral Cat Day. There are millions of un-owned cats that are often overlooked by non-animal lovers. Tireless volunteers trap, neuter, feed and care for these cats. National Feral Cat Day was created by Alley Cat Allies to draw attending to the plight of feral cats and their caretakers.

While the majority of adoption guidelines are in fact just that, they are still items that must be considered prior to making an adoption decision. It is not effective to rely solely on the individual discretion of the adoption counselor.
It is impossible to act in the best interest of the animals if there are no guidelines. Animals should not be adopted just to prevent euthanasia or haphazardly without forethought of the animal's welfare.

After you log in to your Petfinder account at www.petfinder.com/admin, click EDIT SHELTER INFO. At the end of the first section of Public Information, you will see this question: Allow pet list export to partner sites?
Click YES and your adoptable pet listings are sent to Oodle.com, which powers the online classifieds sections of hundreds of local and national Web sites. This way, not only will millions of Petfinder.com visitors view your pets, but they will also be available to all the folks searching for pets on sites such as Walmart.com, MySpace, Lycos, Local.com and Petside.com, as well as sites for local TV stations and newspapers from Albany to San Francisco (and hundreds of cities in between). Oodle users view an average of 600,000 Petfinder pets each month.Right now only 2/3 of Petfinder members are taking advantage of this incredible opportunity. Unless you already have more adopters than you need, log into your account and be sure you’ve checked YES and opted in to show your pets to as many potential adopters as possible. After viewing your adoptable pet elsewhere, potential adopters can come back to your Petfinder pet list and that pet's Pet Notes page - and can contact you for more information.
