Our Featured Pet...
Our featured pet is Bingo, a 7 month old male Black Labrador Retriever mix. This young dog gets along well with all of his kennel mates and is a very friendly youngster. He has been with us for a long time (I guess the national statistics are true: black dogs are the last ones to get adopted) and he really deserves a good home and lots of lovies and attention. We hope to find a good forever home for Bingo very soon!
News
Our Animal Control Officer and shelter volunteers are working hard at finding homes for our adoptable animals. Staging adoption drives (coupled with requests for supplies and donations) at local area events at least once or twice a month is our goal. During the cold winter season we will suspend these events, but we invite you to come visit us at our location!
Please note that we have a LOW COST SPAY & NEUTER CLINIC COMING UP DECEMBER 15, 16, AND 17 at our location. Please call 870-994-4445 for reservations soon, as these quarterly events fill up rather fast!!!
Who We Are
We are a rather new shelter operated by the City of Cherokee Village and partnered by the community of Ozark Acres. We hope to have the communities of Ash Flat, Highland, and Hardy join us as partners in the future to help combat the stray and abandoned pet population in our areas. With 7 lakes, golfing, camping, etc., Cherokee Village is a tourist community during the summer and often pets are lost or abandoned in our woods and on our highways. Established just late last year with a small budget and an overwhelming need, we are relying heavily on public donations to rehabilitate and expand our facility's barn-type buildings in order to house the many stray and abandoned animals in our area.
We always need volunteers who enthusiastically support our only animal control officer, Shorlyn Morris, both in the office and in the kennel areas cleaning, feeding, and watering our charges.
Volunteers are needed who are willing to open their homes to foster litters of kittens, injured cats and dogs who need a little loving care so they can be adopted into good homes after they have healed - and we need foster homes for neglected dogs and cats in order to help socialize them and get them to trust people again.
We have completed the cat building with the help of donated and city-purchased materials and labor and are hoping to start on a quarantine building next.
Adopting a friend
Our adoption policy is as follows: We require rabies vaccinations within 7 days of adoption (if not up to date) and neutering/spaying of animals within 30 days of adoption (if not already neutered/spayed and if animal is old enough to be altered). Our local veterinarians honor a $25 voucher offered by the City of Cherokee Village toward the cost of spaying/neutering an adopted animal. We do follow-up to ensure compliance with our policy and require proof that vaccinations are up-to-date and that city licenses are current (for residents of Cherokee Village).
For adopters who live outside of a 50 mile radius of our shelter, we will require vet and personal references and adopted animals have to be vetted (fecal exam, shots/boosters, and spaying/neutering if old enough) prior to leaving our facility. Adoptive "parent(s)" will pay the vet clinic directly and payment must be made by debit/credit card or check. Checks must clear prior to picking up the new pet.
Our adoption fee is $25.00 unless the pet was recently vetted and spayed/or neutered in which case we will add the cost of vetting to the adoption fee.
Please request an adoption contract by emailing us at prpcsras@aol.com.
