Meet Honey

Honey is a sweet, happy, affectionate little tripod. Don’t let her “disability” fool you, though, because this girl can run like the wind! Most people don’t even notice her missing leg because she moves around so easily.

Honey loves to be with people, and she struggles a bit with separation anxiety, but she is making remarkable progress with that. She is fine on her own, but she would love an adoptive home where she can be with her people most of the time. She likes kids and is calm and gentle around them. She would fit into a home with children of any age, and because she only has one rear leg, she doesn’t jump up on people, so her adoptive family can rest assured that she won’t jump on a small child. She can be a little mouthy when she gets excited, but she responds well to corrections and calms down quickly.

Honey likes other dogs, and would happily run through traffic just to visit with one (which may be how a four-legged dog became a three-legged dog). Once close, she can be a bit dominant sometimes, so proper introductions are important for her. Despite her obvious enthusiasm for other dogs, she isn’t the type who needs a full-time companion; she would be just as happy as a canine only-child! While her affection for dogs comes and goes, her love for cats is unwavering! She loves her feline foster-brother, and is patient and gentle with him.

Honey’s obedience training is coming along nicely. She knows ‘sit’, ‘down’, ‘shake’, ‘leave it’ and ‘speak’, and she is working hard to master others. Outside, Honey is very easily distracted, so she needs work on her recall and focus. She tries so hard and she always aims to please.

Because of Honey’s unique physical appearance, she has some unique needs. She loves to go for walks, but she tires more easily than a four-legged dog, so she does best with three or four shorter walks per day, rather than one or two longer ones. Honey would do well in a home with a fenced back yard, with a family who likes to relax outdoors, so that she can burn off extra energy at her own pace. She would benefit from hydrotherapy to take some of the pressure off of her legs, so she would love a home with a pool, or with a family who enjoys spending time near the water. Because she tends to burn off her physical energy much more quickly than her mental energy, Honey enjoys doing extra obedience training sessions to help wear out her mind.

Honey is a special dog who deserves a special family! Are you that family?
