Balton is an adorable and affectionate Shepherd mix looking for his forever family. At about 2 years old and 60 lbs, this sweet boy is full grown, and loves to play with his canine friends of all sizes. Balton is a strong dog who is still working on his manners and sometimes unaware of his size and strength, so we recommend that he goes to a home with children over the age of 15.  He is living with cats in foster care, and although he doesn't completely understand why they don't want to run and play with him, Balton tries to be respectful of their space, and has gotten rather good at letting them be when his foster mom calls him away.
Balton is very bright, and has learned a number of commands during his time in foster care. He also has a very good understanding of house rules and is very well mannered. He knows to go to his crate when it's time to 'go to bed' and is very polite about sitting and waiting for his meals to be set on the ground before he eats. He is continuing his studies under the care of his foster mom with weekly sessions in obedience school, and will make an excellent student in his continued training.  Balton loves to go on mid-day adventures with his dog walker, happily taking in all the sights and smells around him. Balton's favorite place to be is at the dog park, where he is quite the little superstar and social butterfly. He runs and plays with his canine friends until he tires himself out completely, then snoozes away on a cozy spot back at home, where he is a big cuddle bug (and a bit of a couch potato), who loves to be near his people.Â
Balton bonds quickly to his humans and loves them with all his heart. In his element, he is goofy, loving, playful, and always making his foster family laugh with his expressive nature and sweet, silly personality.  His dream home would offer a relatively quiet lifestyle out in the suburbs, a fenced yard to play his favorite game of soccer fetch, and a confident canine sibling to show him the ropes, since new settings and people can make him a bit nervous.
Balton is still learning that strangers can be just as good as the people he knows and trusts, but is making great strides. Balton's foster family has made a concerted, continued, and consistent effort to his training, and he's looking for a forever family to offer him the same, with patience and love in their hearts. His adopters will need to be prepared to continue supporting Balton in getting comfortable with new situations and expanding his social circle, but he is an incredibly loyal and faithful companion to the people he knows and trusts. A little extra TLC for Balton will pay dividends in large quantities of love, cuddles, and doggie kisses.Â
Balton is crate trained and doing very well with his housetraining in foster care. Still, as with all shelter dogs, he may need a refresher when he goes to his forever home.
The adoption fee for this dog is $300, which includes the cost of routine vetting, including vaccinations and spay/neuter. If you are have room in your home for Balton's big heart and adorable ears, please download our Adoption Questionnaire and email it to Lynn at lynnh@luckydoganimalrescue.org!
