Alfalfa was rescued by the police when she was found living in a drug house surrounded by used needles. She was underweight, lacked muscle tone, missing the hair down her backside, and trembled. Poor Alfalfa could not see out of her right eye and is almost deaf. It is no wonder she snapped while at the shelter. When the shelter became full, Alfalfa was scheduled to be the next to be put down. Then a volunteer from Homeward Trails rescued her.


After a good bath and shave to get rid of her matted hair, Alfalfa went straight to the vet to develop a plan of action. Poor thing was completely blind in her right eye, so surgery was scheduled. Also, Alfalfa started eating good food and taking walks to build her muscles.


Alfalfa’s eye surgery was successful and she can now see out of both eyes. She has gained weight and her coat looks good. While she still has some trembles, she is strong and able to go on long walks.


She would love to live in a home where the humans work from home or are retired/semi-retired since she loves to spend her time with her people. She will follow you all around the house and yard as you do your chores. Alfalfa likes walks and car rides. She can share space with another dog, but does not play. This sweetie is a real people lover and will walk up to strangers so they can say hi and pet her.

The adoption fee for this dog is $310, which helps with the cost of routine vet care. This fee INCLUDES spay/neuter and microchip. Our adult animal fees range and are based on: fees we pay to shelters, vetting costs, transport costs, and boarding costs. Some animals cost more than others to rescue, so that is why our fees range from $275-$350.
