Greta RIP :( American Staffordshire Terrier Morehead, KY

11/17 update: Greta got into a fight with foster's dog, which was hurt pretty bad. Nobody saw what happened, but there has been no interest in Greta since STAR saved her in February. Unfortunately Pits or Pit mixes are almost impossible to place. Obviously foster can't keep Greta any longer so there is no choice but to put her down. We're so sorry that her forever home was never found. May she rest in peace.

Greta was in a new foster home for 2 weeks while other foster was on vacation. She was fine living with 20 other strange dogs, two which were also pitbulls.

Greta Garbo has earned her Certificate of Achievement by completing Begginner Education sponsored by the PetSmart Pet Training Program. Greta attended 6 weekly classes at the Pet Smart store in Lexington. She is comfortable in responding to look at her foster, sit, down, stay (for a short period of time). She does well moving about the store on a leash passing various dogs and children. She even responds well to small children reaching out to touch her even if they have not asked permission. She travels well in a car- in or out of a crate. She is house trained, will relieve herself on and off a leash. She does well with her foster's small dogs, sleeps in a crate, if made to, or on the couch if she is permitted and sometimes crawls under the 7-8 inch space under roommates bed. She rarely barks, however has a her own characteristic whine-talk to get your attention if she thinks you need it.






Greta received Revolution 7/10/11 and is doing great. A little shy until she gets to know you. Once she is your friend, she is always by your side. Sleeps on floor next to foster's bed, plays with the other dogs and is a happy girl now. Only a scar remains from her hit by car accident. We'd love to find a permanent home for Greta. She has been wating so long now. Greta also enjoys hikes in the woods and is housebroken.


Greta was found on Interstate 64 after she had been hit by a car. A kind lady brought her to shelter and then we took her to vet. She has a large abrasion to her side, a broken jaw and scraps on her head and leg. While her jaw was getting repaired, we had her spayed. She weighs 39#.
This was a tough save as bully breed dogs rarely get adopted and rescues are already full of ones that people won't adopt, even though most are very nice. Because Greta is so sweet and the vet staff even brags on her, we are taking a chance that a home for this precious girl can be found.
