Paul American Staffordshire Terrier Mix Warwick, RI

Paul is a gorgeous, super sweet fellow with a rough past. He was brought to us by a concerned neighbor who heard Paul being beaten. She rescued him from an owner who admitted to hitting him and brought him to us. Despite his past 'home', Paul is a loving, gregarious fellow who is quite convinced he is a lap dog. He is happiest on your lap, being the center of attention. He appears to be good with all ages, although his size, strength and young age (he is between 1 and 2) could make him a risk with young kids. He has been on outings with other dogs and done very well on leash (Paul is a kisser). He has been to the park as well as out on our Cafe Dogs program, and has impressed people everywhere he's gone with his stellar personality. He is friendly to a fault, engaging with strangers, tolerant of novel situations and loud noises (what firetruck?), and always excited for the next adventure. He is young and energetic, so will need a home that can meet his activity needs. He does have a sensitive throat, possibly from an injury, so he is a harness-only dog - no collars, please! As with any terrier, we would caution against homes with small animals, although he has not yet shown any signs of aggression or strong prey drive. Given the extreme lack of care in his last home, Paul requires basic training (he does already know sit), and we are looking for someone with experience with the breed and the time to commit to his exercise and training. Paul is an all-around great dog who has quickly won over the hearts of the staff, and who is eagerly awaiting a loving new home.
