Meet True
True came to Kreitzer’s Critter Corral Puppy Rescue from a shelter as a pregnant stray back in September of 2019. She delivered and raised her beautiful pups and they were all adopted out and are doing well. True had some medical problems upon intake that took time to work out, mainly hypothyroidism that was causing hair loss. Over time, True blossomed into the dog you see in your Facebook feed today! Her hypothyroidism is well controlled with a daily pill and she is an active and otherwise healthy 8 year old. She requires a blood test every 6 months to test her thyroid levels to ensure she is on the correct medication dosage. True is also on a a daily pill (and as needed) to help her relax a bit.
So why is True still with us you might ask? Well, here’s the truth about True…
She’s a bit of a “bad people greeter”. Yeah, that’s right, she has no idea how to greet a person. She gets super excited and anxious to meet someone, especially when she’s on a leash, and ends up making a fool of herself. That can be scary to some. And then, when she does finally chill out, your personal space is her personal space. Forget about ever having personal space with True around!
True is a “bad sharer.” We can’t sugar coat this friends. True is a resource guarder. Mostly food, sometimes toys. True growls over her food and treats. She growls at people and at other dogs. As for her toys? It really depends on her mood. 90% of the time she doesn’t mind her person taking her toy, but she has been known to give a warning growl at other times. Due to her resource guarding, True cannot be adopted into a home with kids.
The other truths about True? She is super sketchy with other dogs. One minute she might be a friend, the next a foe. She has very limited positive dog to dog interaction skills and we feel she would do best as an only dog. True does NOT do well with cats. She’s a creature of habit. Mess with her schedule and expect an anxious, unhappy girl. She belches in your face after eating. She is not the greatest on a leash, but she’s working on it. Her favorite toy to tote around is a stuffed rat called “Gym Rat”. She will practically knock you over to chase her Jolly Ball, her absolute favorite activity, so watch out! She loves belly rubbins and soaking in the sun. She will sit, shake, lay down, and drop it on command. She’s funny, keeps you on your toes, and absolutely loves life.
So what are we trying to say about True? Well, firstly, she’s ADOPTABLE! True is by no mean a vicious beast. Yes, she’s has a few quirks. A few “less desirable” behaviors. But guess what? Foster mom and dad have this girl figured out! Keeping her on a schedule, removing known triggers from her environment, and controlling her resources have practically eradicated any instances of growling. She simply needs someone that will continue providing her with this type of structure while adding the benefit of a forever family to the equation! We know that there’s a home for True somewhere.
True is an 8 year old Chocolate Lab mix weighing around 75 pounds. Her adoption fee is $100.
